I was looking into the background of a company that was suggested to us for kitchen cabinets, and it has led me down an interesting path. This cabinet maker is supposed to be “America’s oldest cabinet maker”. Where did they store things prior to 1926, I wonder? But there’s more to the story. First, I see that the cabinet maker is one of several “brands” within one cabinet conglomerate, with the scary-sounding name of “Masterbrand”. They seem to have some employee morale issues, based on the JobVent comments. And Masterbrand is just one of the companies in the Fortune Brands family. Others in the Fortune clan include Jim Beam bourbon and Titleist golf stuff, among many other familiar names. They categorize the three branches of the Fortune family tree as Home & Security, Spirits, and Golf. I’m going to stop right there. I don’t want to know what entity owns Fortune Brands.
